Automation System - Library Solution for Schools

The automation system product I chose is Library Solution for Schools by The Library Corporation. I chose to take a closer look at this system because The Anchorage School District recently implemented this system, and when I become a librarian with the district, I’ll be using this system. With my daughter, I have already used the web-based catalog to search for books within the entire district from home.
It is a web-based product with core circulation functionality. LS2 Circ is user-friendly and allows students to check out materials on their own with different methods. One visual method useful for younger students is where students select their teacher’s picture, then their own picture, and then scan the barcodes on the materials.
LS2 Circ will also enable users to place hold requests for any number of copies. The program will determine where the copies are available, and will send requests to the schools where the copies are available.
LS2 Kids is a companion to Library Solution for Schools. It enables students to easily search for materials and even provides spelling corrections and suggestions when searching. The program is very visual and includes a “category wheel” with dozens of subject areas such as scary stories and baseball. A unique feature allows students to read book jackets and find more information about materials.
Students can also access age-appropriate library catalogs, add book reviews and share lists of favorite titles from home or another location by using the remote database authentication.
This system seems very useful for a K-12 library. The system allows students of all ages to use the system. It provides security and easy-assess by creating a very visual interface allowing students to access age-appropriate materials.

Website assignment Part 1

The top 5 things I would want to include on my school library website (if I was a middle or high school librarian) would be a blog, research databases, delicious bookmarks, recommended book lists, and a catalog.
